Trim Levels (Exterior)
The new sDrive30i is now the entry-level model and comes with 18-inch wheels and a power liftgate. The xDrive30i comes with the same equipment which also includes LED headlights, LED fog lights, and roof rails. Both of these models also get power-folding side mirrors that are also heated and auto-dimming along with the option for extras such as a sunroof, the M Sport package, and upgraded brakes.<br><br> The top-level M40i adds a sport exhaust, a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wheels, and more aggressive styling for the front and rear bumpers. This trim also comes with a launch control system and the option for adaptive LED headlights.
Engine (Power)
BMW offers two engine options for the X3. The base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder gets 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and it comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive in the sDrive30i, and all-wheel drive in the xDrive30i. The M40i gets a 3.0-liter turbo engine with 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Both engines give you plenty of power for a fun ride whether you hit the highway or spend your time on back roads. This luxury SUV is also one of the more fuel-efficient crossovers on the road and will get 23 miles per gallon in the city with 30 mpg on the highway with the base engine and rear wheel drive. The 3.0-liter is still efficient with an EPA rating of 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The X3's cabin is sleek, upscale and luxurious. The comfortable front seats provide excellent support along with plenty of head and legroom. In the back, there are over 28 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, and the design includes rails for cargo management along with a hidden storage bin. BMW filled the X3 with high-quality materials including faux leather in all models with the option for upgraded leather.<br><br> Technology features include the iDrive infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display touch screen that can also be controlled by the iDrive dial. Bluetooth comes standard, and Apple CarPlay is available.
Safety Features
All the X3 models come standard with a rearview camera, and new for 2019, rear parking sensors are also standard. All trims also get rain-sensing windshield wipers, Active Guard with a frontal collision warning system, and the Automatic City Collision Mitigation system which will automatically apply the brakes if a crash is imminent. The Driver Assistance Package is an available option and will add adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and a front cross-traffic alert system. A surround-view camera with a 3D view is also an available option along with a parking assistant.
